Newton and the Art

the niu Home

Art fans take note. The Berlin Museum of Photography is definitely worth a visit. Discover different themes in the history of photography and works by individual contemporary photographers. Accompanying the museum are interesting guided tours, really good lectures and recommendable symposia on various topics.

But the highlight is on the second floor of the building: There you'll find works from Berlin's Helmut Newton Foundation. The foundation was established in 2003 shortly before the famous photographer's death. Newton generously donated a large number of his works to the foundation. On the first floor, you'll admire items from Newton's personal collection, films and publications from the life and work of the famous fashion and portrait photographer. On the first floor of the museum, changing exhibitions on individual themes from Helmut Newton's works are shown throughout the year. 300 of Newton's impressive works are shown here for the first time - especially his wonderful and spectacular fashion photographs. Goodie: The exhibition is rounded off by personal Polaroids and contact sheets, as well as special publications, archival material and quotes from the photographer.

Keep in mind: Starting in the middle of the year, you'll be traveling straight to Hollywood at the Museum of Photography. Background of the exhibition "Hollywood": Helmut and June Newton always spent the winter months in Los Angeles, mostly in the famous Hotel Chateau Marmont. During these years, Helmut Newton portrayed many actors, directors and musicians in and around Hollywood on behalf of numerous magazines. For each of them, Newton developed an individual scenario in which you can and should immerse yourself. You can also admire the work of other photographers, such as George Hoyningen-Huene, Steve Schapiro, Larry Sultan, Julius Shulman, Michael Dressel, Jens Liebchen - and of course Alice Springs, with a series of pictures taken on the legendary Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.
