What a motley spot

A spot in the sun

Hush! You will not find this spot in any guidebook, for sure. The Gartenfeldplatz is one of the most beautiful places in all of Mainz—the locals told us and we agree. Whether you want to stroll around licking a spaced out ice cream flavor (honey-rosemary, rice pudding, olive oil), or whether you want to sip a cold drink while sitting in the sun, or even just browse through interesting books while enjoying amazing coffee—at the Gartenfeldplatz everything is possible. Pure fun and relaxation.

And who organized this? Creative makers from Mainz developed the overall concept. Everything is set up with love for detail and free thinking. And the concept works: a lot of locals come here, young and old. Everyone can come, no one is forced. Serene and relaxed. Take the day, explore the space here and enjoy the air in Mainz. There is a whiff of creativity in it.

In more detail:

The spaced out ice cream can be found at „N´Eis”. They say that N´Eis is the best ice cream parlor in Germany—the lines outside might attest to that. (New in their range of ice creams: Lavender)

Crazy good coffee can be had at the „Bukafski“, while you browse the special editions. And yes, you may recognize the name. There is a nod here to the polarising author Charles Bukowski, in combination with a love for coffee. The place is—how shall we put this—cross-stylish. One armchair is from Weimar, another from Karlsruhe—all of the items here were collected by the owner himself all over Germany. It is quite unique, this „Bukafski“.

You need cake? Who doesn’t? You can get it at “Annabatterie”. This is an „Ideal World Café“ in that you will get everything you need for comfort and desserts: Muffins, tartes, cookies, cake… It is just as well that the Gartenfeldplatz is big enough to go for a run around to get rid of the calories after.

As you can see, the Gartenfeldplatz offers more than enough attraction for more than a short visit. Enjoy!
